Declutter Your Content Marketing (for more ease, clarity & focus)

Declutter your content marketing for more ease & focus

If you’re finding content marketing overwhelming, it’s probably time for a good old declutter / spring clean!

Content creation can feel easy (and fun!), but if your process is a mess, or your strategy hasn’t been revisited in a while, that’s going to make it feel difficult.

Here are my best tips for cutting the fluff and getting more focused with your marketing again!

The ‘life-changing magic of decluttering your content marketing’

Why focus on ‘decluttering’ and streamlining your content marketing? Because of the ‘life-changing magic’ of getting rid of the unnecessary!

To quote Marie Kondo herself (the author of the famous ‘Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up’ book):

“One of the magical effects of tidying is confidence in your decision-making capacity.”

A cluttered, chaotic content creation process is going to make you feel overwhelmed. Not only does this mean that content marketing will take you longer (because you’ll keep procrastinating when it feels difficult), it also means you won’t be making decisions from a place of focus and clarity.

In order to make our content marketing worth the time & energy we put in, it needs to have a clear purpose and strategy behind it.

It shouldn’t be something that we rush because it’s left ‘til the last minute, or that we just post for the sake of posting something.

We need time and space to make clear decisions about our content and the best way to create it!

Scale back on content platforms that aren’t working for you

If you’re stressing because you feel like you have to be on ALL the platforms, posting regularly to everywhere, step back.

Do you actually have the capacity & business resources to be on all these platforms at once? Are you spreading yourself too thin?

All you REALLY need are a minimum of 2 platforms that achieve these two things:

    • Discoverability/visibility: a platform that can get you more reach, more traffic & new people into your audience)

    • Engagement/Nurture: a platform where you can connect with your existing audience on a deeper level)

(PS. I help you discover which platforms are right for you, your customers, and for these different goals inside The Streamlined Content System course!)

    Organise your content ideas effectively

You have ideas for content saved in your Notes app, Reminders, Instagram Saved Posts, scraps of paper around your desk, and Lord knows where else.

It’s GREAT that you’re capturing ideas and coming up with things to post about, but without an organised system for storing these and retrieving these ideas when you most need them, this is going to feel very chaotic, AND make your whole process slower.

Instead, I have a Content Ideas Bank; a central place for me to store ALL my content ideas on different topics.

Spring clean your assets, files & templates

It’s the worst when you’re trying to create a simple Instagram post - which in theory should take just a few minutes - but you can’t find anything you need to design it.

I’m talking logo files, colour palette codes, brand patterns, the right photos that fit with your brand, fonts, or templates you’ve created in the past that worked well.

Schedule some time to get all of these in one, easy-access place, and clear out the old files you no longer need. Crack on a podcast episode to listen to while you go to make it more fun!

    Streamline your creation process

So it’s time for you to sit down and actually create the content… but the task feels big and overwhelming, and you’re not sure where to start.

Instead, when you have a streamlined workflow/checklist set up for each of your types of content, you can crack on immediately because you know exactly what the next small task is that you need to do.

(PS. I show you how to set this up and give you templates for all this inside The Streamlined Content System too ✨)
