 FAQs

Q: What is Squarespace and why do you use it?

Squarespace is a website building platform and hosting company. You may have also heard of platforms such as WordPress or Wix, but my preference for designing sites is Squarespace, mainly because it is so user-friendly for my clients to manage!

I have more information about why Squarespace is great, as well as a full comparison of different platforms over on my ‘Why Squarespace’ page.

Q: Do you create websites with other platforms?

I used to do WordPress website design, but no longer offer this as a service. I’ve been working with Squarespace for over 3 years now and know it like the back of my hand! WordPress is a much more complex beast, and because I have become so quick at creating sites in Squarespace, it means I can keep my prices affordable for small businesses.

Q: How much does Squarespace cost?

You can find Squarespace's pricing on their website, but most of my clients require either the Business Plan, or the Basic Commerce Plan. If you work with me, you can get 20% off your first year too!

(Note: This cost, along with the cost of your domain, is separate to my website design fee.)

Q: How does payment work with you?

Once we have set a date to get started on your project, and have been through our contract, you will receive an invoice for your 50% deposit. Then, when the project is complete you will receive an invoice for the remaining 50%. This will all be written out in our contract.

Q: Do your prices include VAT?

I am not VAT registered so there is no VAT to pay on my prices; this is definitely a benefit of hiring a freelancer rather than a big agency!

Q: Do you offer Squarespace support?

At the end of every project, I supply my clients with a Squarespace guide, resources and video tutorials to empower them to manage and make edits to the website themselves.
Squarespace itself also has award-winning 24/7 technical support and an extensive ‘Knowledge Base’ resource of information. However, for quick questions I am always an email away!

If you need further edits after our project or any website updates, I can do piece-work at my hourly rate of £30.

Q: When can you get started on my project?

I usually require 3 to 4 weeks notice to book a project, but don't be afraid to get in touch anyway in case I have a space sooner! Usually it can be useful for you to have this time to gather the things you need to get started on the project too.

Q: Do you work with international clients?

Yes! In fact, around half of my clients are US-based (I'm in the UK), and I have worked with people in New Zealand and United Arab Emirates before too.

Q: I know literally nothing about websites; will I be able to do this?

You, my friend, are my exact target client! My process is specifically designed to be easy and stress free for you; I will talk you through each stage clearly and let you know exactly how to prepare. At the end, I will be providing you with a guide and video tutorials showing you exactly how to make any edits you need.

The beauty of Squarespace is that it is a totally ‘managed’ platform (unlike WordPress). This means that all updates, maintenance, security and tech stuff is taken care for you so you don’t even need to think about it.

Q: What do I need to prepare before my project?

Once we have scheduled our project, I will send you a ‘homework pack’ with all the things I need from you to get started. This will include filling out a short questionnaire about your business, gathering images and copy, and getting your domain details together. I can help you through any of this if you need!

However, it is a good idea to have a rough idea of how many pages and what features you may need on your website (eg. an email newsletter sign up form, a blog, or a gallery etc.) before our initial phone call so that I can give you an accurate quote!

Q: I don't fit into any of your packages. Can you create me a custom quote?

Absolutely! My packages are mainly for demonstration to give people a fairly good idea of what price they can expect. However, if you need something that doesn’t quite fit, just get in touch and we can chat about your requirements in more detail!
